A Clean House and A Clean Heart

As most of you know, my summer is FULL. When I say FULL, I mean 67 days straight of high energy Jesus with thousands of kids and teens in my backyard. Signs, Miracles, and Wonders are something I experience daily. Not to mention the abundance to Ice Cream, Candy, Toys, Go-Karts, Waterslides, Rockwall, Archery. You name it, we probably have (except for anything I didn’t list… You get the point). Here’s a sneak peek of what my summer looked like!

Whew… what a journey that was! Now that camp has ended we’ve all scattered for a well deserved breather. Some to beaches, some to big cities, and some home to family. If you’re like me, and about 20 other people, you’re here on campus doing the work of The Lord for another week. And if you’re like me, you’d be doing the obvious thing… CLEANING!! (I know you thought I was going to say “Riding the waterslide”.. Sorry for letting you down) After 2 months of non-stop action, I have to admit that my house has NOT been in order. Who are we kidding here! Even if I DO wear the same thing everyday things just get messy during summer. I know it’s in my “woman handbook” to keep everything in order. But let’s just say I haven’t gotten to that chapter just yet. I’m still on the cooking chapter that seems to be taking forever!

Pause while I flip my burgers…

Hmmmhmmmhmmmmmm…

Ok.. They aren’t burnt, so we’re all good!

Anyways, While cleaning tonight I had the thought, “If I would have done a little at a time all summer, it would have been so much easier today”. Just like I don’t want to live in a messy house, neither does Jesus. Our heart is his home.

Psalms 51:10 says: Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.

We must allow Jesus to be the housekeeper of our heart. He will make us clean and keep us clean. (Thankfully it wont cost as much as it does to have someone else come clean your house!) I’m sure there are many out there that feel their heart is too dirty. That you wouldn’t want to invite him in, just like you wouldn’t want to invite people over to your house looking a hot mess. The truth is.. this is so different. Jesus doesn’t want to be invited into a party ready heart. Where everything is clean in the open spaces and everything else is thrown into closets that you KNOW no one will see. Instead, he’d rather walk straight in without you even knowing. (Like that friend that never gives you a warning!) Jesus wants to see the good, the bad, and the super ugly. He wants to make you clean.
Perhaps like my house cleaning, it wont happen overnight. It may take time but if you are willing to open up to him, he will clean you inside – out!

The best part is.. once you’re clean, you can breathe so much easier!

Now I shall enjoy my clean house and my delicious chocolate chip cookies!
